Hi everyone,
First off, I want to preface this entire post with "I am not rich" lol. This post is a review on my Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 and I don't want to throw anyone off. I argued with myself for awhile about writing a post on this handbag. The things holding me back were that I didn't want to seem as if I was bragging or make anyone else feel bad (not that anyone should, of course). However, on the other hand, I have been SO excited to share my purchase with all of you because I know ya'll adore fashion/shopping/style as much as I do.
As you can see, I did decide to write the post. I bought my bag back in May, actually, so that is how long it actually took me to decide so some thought has gone into this writing. I have been wanting a nice, classic handbag for a while now and finally decided that I wanted a Louis Vuitton. I will give a more thorough review on my purse below but I want ya'll to know the story that led up to me actually purchasing the bag.
I don't make a lot of money. I live a very modest lifestyle (i.e., older car, no cable, walk/take public transportation everywhere, no big trips or expensive shopping sprees). I do, however, have a very determined personality. I was not going to let the fact that I am not rich define me or keep me from getting what I want. I was going to make it happen.
Since January I have been saving for this purse. I was still putting my usual % away in my savings, paying my bills etc. I just wasn't spending money on much else. It took me until about May but I finally reached my goal and got the bag. I couldn't believe it, my hard work actually paid off. Now that I have had the bag for a couple of months, I still get all excited just carrying it around.
As mentioned above, I decided to get a Louis Vuitton because I wanted something classic that I would be happy to carry for the rest of my life. I chose the damier print instead of the typical monogram (see photo below) because....I just liked it better lol. I thought it was more classic looking. The damier is actually the original print and the monogram was ironically created to keep people from creating counterfeit damier bags.
Once I decided the print, I chose to go with the Speedy. The Speedy comes in several different sizes and I got the largest, after much internal debate, the Speedy 35. While the Speedy is not the most practical because you cannot hang it on your shoulder, it is the most classic and I figured if (hopefully not) this is the only super fancy bag I ever get, I want it to be classic. Plus, it gives me a reason to get another bag (ahem, "but I need something more practicalllll"....lol Never-Full here I come!).
The purse is truly lovely. Unlike what you might think, these type of Louis Vuitton bags are made out of canvas and not leather (except for the handles, zipper). That may seem crazy to spend that much on a bag and it not even be made of leather but there is a very practical reason why. The canvas is extremely durable. Louis Vuitton, after all, was originally (and still is) a luggage maker for the wealthy. Case in point, I spilled coffee all over my bag and...it just wiped off. I have also spilled what amounted to be 1/4 of a water bottle inside of bag as well. While this proved to be detrimental to my bags actual contents, the bag still looks brand new.
Another pro of the damier print is the handles do not "patina" which is a fancy way of saying "age". The handles are already a dark brown and will not go darker over time which, honestly, wouldn't really bother me anyway.
All in all, I absolutely love this purse. It was/is worth the months of painfully slow saving it took to obtain it. Also, I feel like I can accomplish anything, at least on a materialistic level. I really took responsibility, learned lots of patience and hard work can get you anything. This goes for any one of you, nothing is out of reach. Keep that in mind the next time you tell yourself "I could never....".
Hmmm...I wonder what my next big purchase will be ;)

I'm not rich either, but I work hard and I deserve to enjoy the fruits of my labor. I invested in the Damier Neverfull GM 2 years ago and I love it. Enjoy your speedy.
ReplyDeleteSheila,
DeleteI totally agree, it's an investment! I'm so happy to hear that you are still loving your purse. I think I will forever be happy with my purchase! <3
I absolutely love the damier ebene print the best. I've tried to add more of the damier azur into my collection but it's just so hard when it's easier to get dirty. Enjoy your lovely purchase that you've earned! :)
ReplyDeleteI have the speedy 30 and neverfull MM and I think you should totally get the neverfull next! It's a great bag as well. ;)
