Hi there,
As mentioned in yesterdays "Work Outfit Style" post, I went to Crystal Mountain, WA this past Tuesday.
Crystal Mountain is a Ski Resort about two hours away from Downtown Seattle. The funny thing is, there is no actual hotel there. There are several hotels right next to the ski lodge but none actually there. Also, it may seem funny to visit a ski lodge in the summer time but there is one particular lift that only, in fact, is in service during the sunny summer time. This particular lift takes you about 6,000 ft in elevation to the summit of Crystal Mountain where you get the most breathtaking view of Mt. Rainer.
Mt. Rainier is a beast at over 14,000 ft. high. This particular mountain is really a volcano and looks like another planet from Seattle. We only get a lucky few months out of the year where the mountain is actually visible. Even up close the mountain can completely disappear and one would never even know it was there.
The day I went up was absolutely perfection as far as visibility (and pretty much everything else). When you get to the top of Mt. Crystal there are chairs basically sitting on the edge of a really steep incline (aka cliff =/) where you can relax, enjoy the sunshine and gorgeous 360 degree views as well as watch some cute chipmunk families frolic on the rocks on the incline. There is also a restaurant (a very expensive restaurant even for lunch) with outside seating.
Mt. Crystal is dog friendly. I was excited to find this out because I really wanted to take Harper with me. One of the funnest parts of the visit was the actual gondola lift up and down the mountain. I have never gone skiing/snowboarding so riding a lift was new to me. It was about 10 minutes up and down the mountain each way. It was peaceful and not too scary ;)
I recommend checking out this place the next time you are in Seattle between June and September. The views are to die far and the ride didn't seem that long. In fact, the closer to the mountain you get the prettier the ride gets through the White River State Park and Mt. Rainier State Park.
