It may sound kind of gross but let's get real, sometimes we need to wash our hair but don't have the time (or energy). You girls out there with really thick, long locks know what I am talking about. I have always wanted to be a "wash and go kind of girl" but, unfortunately, mother nature has other plans. I am not a high maintenance girl but I do have high maintenance hair (seriously, have you seen it au naturel?).
If I could wash my hair and it look lovely with just a few scrunches here and there or just a good brush, than yay! But....it doesn't look good. Seriously, I have to wash, condition, towel dry, air dry, then blow dry my hair intro submission. THEN I have to straighten. Every time I try to embrace my naturally frizzy locks I spend the rest of the day miserable and regretting my decision because I can't focus on anything except how frizzy and out of control my hair looks.
Because of my hair's natural tendencies, I (like any evolved creature), have learned to adapt. I have some "go to" hairstyles below that have worked for me to create a faux "clean" look.
1.) Curl your hair
I have a wonderful hot roller+mousse+hairspray routine (tutorial coming soon) that I love and I occasionally whip it out when my hair needs a good washing because it takes less time. I recommend curling your hair with lots of product when it's at least 2nd day hair because it's more malleable and easy to control but also to hide the fact that you may need a washing. The more hairspray the better (I love Aveda's "Witch Hazel" because it smells so good and clean).
2.) Bang bump-it
Whenever I create this cute hairstyle and use hairspray and bobbi pins galore, it sort of hides the rest of my hair and the focus is on the bump. The bump, while very cute, is also smothered in product and therefore very hard to notice that I need to wash my mop.
3.) Pony tail
Not the slicked back, headache inducing kind. I am talking about a very cheerleader, peppy pony tail with volume galore. This hairstyle leaves less hair to be inspected, especially around your face, and can be your saving grace for at least an extra day.
4.) Wash your bangs
Haha I know it may seem desperate but this is a great trick! Bangs usually are the first thing to get greasy because they are on your forehead and you touch them a lot with your hands. However, if your entire head needs a good washing than this is a good trick as well. Seriously, just wash, blow dry, and style your bangs the way you usually would and it will make a huge difference. Bangs are typically the first thing people see when they look at you and if they're fluffy and clean the rest of your hair will seem that way too.
p.s. Don't forget about dry shampoo!
