Why Eyebrow Threading Is Better Than Waxing

Why isn't eyebrow threading more popular? Seriously, the eyebrow grooming technique has been employed for thousands of years from civilizations all over the world yet when I mention it to friends or family I get a puzzled face.

After years of waxing and irritating my sensitive skin and one too many eyebrow burns, I had had enough! I worked at Beauty Brands (similar to an Ulta) at the time and there was a new aesthetician there who provided eyebrow threading. None of my co-workers and I had heard of it before so she wanted to perform it all all of us so 1.) We knew what it was and 2.) We could tell customers about it.

Basically, you lay down as you would have your eyebrows waxed except the aesthetician uses a special thread and her mouth usually (yes, her mouth) to control thread, wound up (i.e. twisted very tight), against your skin and precisely pulls the hair out. (See the picture below). The esthetician usually asks for you to position your fingers around the eyebrow she is working on to hold your skin taut for a quick and easy removal of hair.

The whole process takes about the same amount of time as waxing (about 5-10 minutes) and, to me (being extremely sensitive to pain) feels about the same. I quick, pinching feeling. Like you are tweezing your eyebrows really quickly. Then, when they are finished, they usually put some sort of aloe or soothing lotion on the area to calm down your skin.

The reason why I like it better is because it is extremely precise (see below). The aesthetician can cover large areas of hair (even the rest of your face like your cheeks) or the smallest, shortest single hair with little to no effort. Also, instead of wax being ripped away from the hair and the surrounding skin, threading just pulls the hair. This way, your skin is left alone completely. No chances of too hot wax or burning the skin which is extra helpful for people who are on almost any acne medication or just sensitive skin in general.

All in all, I highly recommend just trying threading once (or twice) especially for those on acne medication.

    1. Yes you are lucky! lol I only get it done every six weeks or more and just keep up in between visits with my tweezers so it isn't too bad.

    1. I have olive skin and get hyperpigmentation quite easily from scarring. Your upper lip is one area that would be hard to hide. I love that threading exists! lol
